Ty Mathews

On March 25, Ty Mathews and Statehouse Republicans passed House Bill 347 which mandate a 24-hour waiting period before a woman can receive abortion care. This seems to violate the 2023 Reproductive Rights Amendment to the Ohio Constitution. The bill is being considered by the Senate. Click the button for the Ohio Capital Journal's report. Mathews claimed to be "a fan" of the work Musk was doing. On his Facebook page, Mathews said he was "excited to help lead the charge" in the new DOGE Ohio House Caucus. He spoke about it on Toledo 13ABC.

In his op-ed appearing in the 11/26 Courier, State Rep Mathews criticized the Ohio Divest protest in Findlay on Nov. 15. But a 12/1 op-ed by a local community organizer not affiliated with Ohio Divest points out the misinformation in Mathews' column.

On September 30, 2024 WFIN Radio sponsored a debate forum with candidates for 83rd District State Representative--Democrat Sheila Coressel and Republican Ty Mathews. Mathews devoted his closing remarks to an appeal to vote No on Issue One, the anti-gerrymandering referendum. His comments were filled with misinformation, fear-mongering and lies. Despite over 1500 opposing testimonies and protests outside the Statehouse, Rep. Mathews joined 58 Republicans to pass S.B. 1 "Advance Ohio Higher Education Act" to supposedly stop "liberal indoctrination" at Ohio's public colleges. The bill's title was amended to include Mathews name.
