DeWine Signs Bill Banning DEI at Ohio's Public Colleges
Mar 28, 2025

Even though over 1500 people submitted opponent testimony, the Governor signed S.B. 1 into law. In 90 days, public colleges will no longer be allowed to have DEI practices on campus. A school violating the ban risks losing state funding. Also, classroom discussion will be regulated and faculty strikes prohibited.
Mathews Votes to Pass Higher Education Overhaul
Mar 19, 2025

Despite over 1500 opposing testimonies and protests outside the Statehouse, Rep. Mathews joined 58 Republicans to pass S.B. 1 "Advance Ohio Higher Education Act" to supposedly stop "liberal indoctrination" at Ohio's public colleges. Then the bill's title was amended to include the names of over 2 dozen Reps, including Mathews.
Moreno Dodges Questions About Why He Voted Against Funding Benefits for Veterans
Feb 28, 2025

Reporting in The Courier, Ogden Newspapers and concerned citizens have been unable to get answers from Senator Moreno and his staff about why he voted "Nay" to "ensure full and uninterrupted funding" for PACT Act benefits for combat veterans
Committees Mathews is on in the Statehouse
Feb 24, 2025

On Feb. 18, House Speaker Huffman announced the appointment of the 83rd District Rep to the standing committee on Finance--the fifth of four committees Mathews served on. Apparently, Huffman forgot that he didn't want Reps on more than 4 committees...so on Feb. 24, the Speaker removed Mathews from Finance. That leaves Ty on the Committees of Development, Natural Resources, Technology & Innovation and Veterans & Military Development of which Mathews is Vice Chair.
Ty Mathews Talks on the Radio: What He's Doing in the House and His Thoughts on DeWine's Budget
Feb 20, 2025

Interviewed by Chris Oaks on WFIN's Good Mornings, Representative Mathews talked about the committees he's serving on; his "Ohio Defense Initiative" to bring jobs to the state; his thoughts on Gov. DeWine's budget; and a bill he's drafting called "The Ohio Version of DOGE."
Speaker Huffman Restricts Voters Right to Gather in the House
Feb 11, 2025

Matt Huffman sets Ohio House rules that restrict constituents from gathering in the House during a session and shortens the time for public notices of floor votes on bills from 24 hours to only ONE HOUR. Fifty-nine advocacy groups sign an open letter that reads: the rules "blatantly attack Ohioans First Amendment rights."
Latta A No Show at Townhall with Hundreds of Worried Voters
Mar 25, 2025

Our 5th District Representative in Washington was invited to a town hall in Huron County to answer concerned voters' questions about what's happening in the federal government and its effect on farms, veterans, Medicaid and more. But Bob Latta did not bother to respond, so hundreds of constituents were left with an empty chair.
Two Mathews-Sponsored Bills Introduced in the House
Mar 19, 2025

Considered for the first time were H.B. 184 prescribing limitations on certain contracts entered into with intercollegiate athletes...and H.B. 185 making changes to the law on the unauthorized use of an individual's persona and prohibiting deepfake recordings.
Bob Latta on the Air Talking About Tax Cuts, Dept. of Education, and CHIPS Act
Mar 12, 2025

Our Representative to Congress spoke over the phone with Chris Oaks on WFIN. He talked about
1.) Extending Trump's 2017 tax cuts--claiming without evidence that they "made the economy explode."
2.) Shutting down the Dept. of Education.
3.) Repealing the CHIPS Act.
Important Statehouse Legislation: Roy Rogers Day & Discounted Hunting Licenses
Mar 5, 2025

During today's session of the Ohio House, Ty Mathews voted to pass two bills: H.B. 13 To Designate November 5th "Roy Rogers Day"...and H.B. 64 which lowers the age requirement to allow Ohioans 65 and up to qualify for discounted hunting and fishing licenses. Three of Ty's committees were also scheduled to meet: Natural Resources at 9:00; Development at 9:45; Veterans/Military at 10:30. Not sure how that worked since the full House session began at 9:00.
Ty Mathews Hears from the VFW and Amvets
Feb 26, 2025

During testimonies at the Veterans & Military Committee meeting today, Vice Chairman Mathews asked the VFW representative about who can be a member. See the video at 15:25. Later, Ty commented to the AMVETS Rep about suicide rates of veterans and urged the Committee to address the issue. See the video at 26:46.
Mathews Co-Sponsors Two More Bills
Feb 18, 2025

HB 102 to prohibit a sex offender from residing or loitering near the victim's home. And HB 112 revives Jennifer Gross's "Conscientious Right to Refuse Act" from last year. This would prohibit discrimination against people who refuse "certain medical interventions" (like vaccinations) for "reasons of conscience."
Where Was Ty?
Feb 5, 2025

The Ohio House of Representatives was in session on Feb. 5, but apparently without our Rep. Ty Mathews. When votes were tallied, both the video record and the House journal show that Mathews was not present for unknown reason. Three of the Committees Mathews is on were also meeting that day, but there's no accessible attendance record to confirm if he was at any of them.
