  • Developed and presented academic-related workshops on topics such as learning styles, goal setting, notetaking, and developing presentation skills.

  • Established academic assistance program for undergraduate students with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) majors.

  • Assisted with the administration of the newly opened Academic Success Center which hosts the university’s tutoring services, academic resources, and supplemental instruction for math courses.

 

Residence Life Experience

Southern Connecticut State University; New Haven, Connecticut

     Associate Director of Residence Life ● Office of Residence Life                                                September 2014 – December 2015

          Responsibilities:

  • Provided overall vision and guidance for the residential education in nine residence halls, including student paraprofessional programming, student-run hall government programming, academic initiatives, student conduct meetings, and community development.

  • Served on the central management team which provided vision and direction for the residence life program.

  • Managed the residential portion of the student conduct process, including the coordination of all disciplinary and administrative functions of due process

  • Represented Residence Life on several campus-wide and division-wide committees focused on student support (CARE), staff development, academic success, and summer access programs.

  • Supervised, coached, and evaluated one master level Assistant Director whose responsibilities include the administration of upperclassmen communities, coordination of all Residence Life student employees hiring.

  • Hired, supervised, coached, and evaluated six bachelor and master level professionals live-in staff members for the first and second year communities.

  • Supervised one graduate intern whose responsibilities included the management of a centralized programming space for housing programs and events, maintaining residence life calendar, and supervising undergraduate programming assistants.

  • Consulted live-in staff on crisis situations such as sexual assaults, alcohol poisoning, missing student reports, mental health concerns, and weather emergencies while serving as central staff on-call on a monthly basis.

  • Actively guided the recruitment, selection, and training of 89 live-in student paraprofessionals and over 100 desk attendants for 24-hour desk operations.

  • Coordinated the Living-Learning Community Program for first generation, transfer, international, and Honors College residents.

  • Served as the main advisor for the main campus-wide housing organization, Residence Hall Association, which managed a $144,000 annual budget.

          Key Accomplishments:

  • Chaired a successful master level preferred live-in staff member search for six positions with a committee consisting of six professionals and two residential students.

  • Created inaugural Hall Director training for nine bachelor and master level professionals which included professional development based on ACPA/NASPAs Professional Competencies, dedicated sessions for graduate intern and undergraduate paraprofessional supervision, and Title IX and Sexual Assault Response Training.

  • Upgraded the selection of Living-Learning Community participants through personal contact and official Living-Learning Community housing application.  Overall participation increased by 28 percent from previous fall semester.

  • Established the Residence Hall Tutoring program focused on Chemistry, math, and writing in conjunction with the Academic Success Center Director.  Thirty-seven percent of the attendees used the service multiple times throughout spring 2015.

  • Implemented an Early Intervention Program for residential students with cumulative grade point averages of 2.0 and below. 60 percent of active participants’ improved their GPAs after one semester in the program.

 

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, University Housing; Edwardsville, Illinois

Assistant Director of Residence Life for Training and Development                                                                             July 2005 – June 2010

          Responsibilities:

  • Supervised and trained six master level professionals and six graduate level live-in staff concerning staff selection and training; student organization advising; and student staff development.

  • Hired, supervised, and evaluated three graduate level summer interns through the ACUHO-I internship program.

  • Served on the central management team which provided vision and direction for the residence life program, including the hiring and training of 12 professional staff members.

  • Administered budgets for training, selection, and student organizations for 5 years which ranged from $300 to $20,000.00.

  • Coordinated the planning and implementation of the two-week Resident Assistant Fall training program which included community building, policy confrontation, diversity, mediation, and a curriculum approach to residential education.

  • Managed the publicity and execution of the campus-wide recruitment and selection of 74 Resident Assistants.

  • Organized and assessed monthly on-going training sessions based on learning outcomes for 74 Resident Assistants regarding current trends and additional topics such as sexual assault, transgender awareness, and handling conversations on diversity.

  • Served as the advisor for the campus-wide housing organization, Residence Housing Association, and SIUE’s chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary.

  • Coached and mentored 7-10 emerging leaders each year in their roles as executive board members, including programming, running meetings, and recruiting members.

  • Developed University Housing’s Staff & Student Leader Alumni connection program which included electronic newsletters and on-campus events.

           Key Accomplishments:

  • Created leadership development program for 30 incoming first-year students which ran for three years.

  • Served as the Illinois Residence Hall Association (IRHA) main advisor for two years which led to an increase in communication and developing a professional budget (2007-2009).

  • Advised the 2009 GLACURH No-Frills conference staff resulting in an overall positive satisfaction rating from attendees.

  • Completed requirements for the Advisor Recognition & Training (ART) program and presented over 10 ART sessions at local, state, and regional conferences.

Bowling Green State University, Office of Residence Life; Bowling Green, Ohio

Residence Hall Director ● McDonald Hall, Rodgers Hall, University-Sponsored Apartments                                          July 2001 – June 2005

           Responsibilities:

  • Supervised and evaluated one full-time secretary by meeting daily to discuss the administration of Rodgers Hall.

  • Supervised, trained, and evaluated 12 Resident Advisors through weekly staff meeting and bi-weekly individual meetings to discuss community and position duties.

  • Supervised and evaluated one Senior Resident Advisor on community building, crisis mediation, and the front desk operations.

  • Maintained the budgets for operations, student programming, hall council, facilities improvement, and student employment in excess of $50,000.

  • Administered the operation of a residence hall for 570 students and co-administered the operations of a residence hall housing 1200 residents, including approving and conducting room assignments and assisting with housing placement.

  • Served as nightly or weekend on-call duty administrator accountable for all aspects of operation of a 4 building area.

  • Consulted with campus personnel on a range of issues including academics, personal crises, disciplinary and behavior problems.

  • Adjudicated approximately 70 student disciplinary hearings to resolve conduct issues each semester.

  • Provided counseling and mediation assistance to students experiencing difficulties with communal living and referred the residents appropriately.

  • Consulted with hall council executive teams on programming, running meetings, and recruiting members.

  • Coached and mentored emerging leaders in their roles as hall council executive board members.

          Key Accomplishments:

  • Planned, implemented, and evaluated training topics for 20 full-time hall directors and 11 graduate assistants (Summer 2005).

  • Managed the opening and operation of four off-campus apartment buildings that housed 300 upper-class students that the university leased from a local rental company.

  • Served as the main advisor to the campus-wide Resident Advisor Council which worked with concerns and activities.

  • Recruited 450 quality candidates who competed for 90 resident advisor positions.

  • Reconstructed the Resident Advisor Manual into one that provided RAs with an all-in-one focus which included procedures, expectations, and spaces for paperwork.
