In February, Secretary of State LaRose turned over the private voter information of 8 million Ohioans to the Department of Justice. Democratic members of Congress sent LaRose a letter questioning his "decision to hand over such sensitive data to federal agencies without apparent legal authority, transparency, or safeguards." In 2023, Commentator Marilou Johanek noted how the Secretary of State transformed from a self-described non-partisan chief of Ohio's elections in 2020 to a MAGA extremist in 2022...writing biased ballot language and actively campaigning against issues like the Reproductive Rights Amendment.

As a member of the GOP dominated Ohio Ballot Board, Secretary of State LaRose wrote the language voters would see on the ballot for the anti-gerrymandering Issue 1 that said it would REQUIRE gerrymandering. In dissenting from the state Supreme Court's approval, Democratic Justice Jennifer Brunner called it “ the most stunningly stilted ballot language that Ohio voters will have ever seen.”
