Five years ago, John Lewis passed away at the age of 80. At 23 he helped organize the 1963 March on Washington when Dr. King said he had a dream. Two years later as he and 600 marchers crossed the Edmund Pettis Bridge in Selma, Alabama to register African-American voters, they were beaten by mounted police. The event led to President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act into law. In 1986, new black voters helped elect Lewis to Congress where he remained until his death in 2020. He once said: "When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just...say something, do something, get in trouble, good trouble, necessary trouble." Today's 1500+ protests against the Trump Administration was in honor of John Lewis.
